Metal bond grinding tools are used to open the slab, level uneven areas, remove weak surface layers, and prepare the floor for transition or polishing. The wrong bond can glaze on hard concrete or wear too quickly on soft concrete, so selection should start with the slab condition.
Grit Selection Logic
16/20 or 20/30 grit is used for aggressive opening and heavy grinding. 30/40 grit is a common first grinding step. 60/80 grit helps refine the first cut. 120/150 grit prepares the surface before transition or polishing stages.
Bond Selection Logic
Hard concrete normally needs a softer bond so diamonds stay open and cutting. Soft concrete normally needs a harder bond to slow wear and keep the scratch pattern controlled.
